Double Drawer Model DD603 Stainless Steel

by Steve Lanning
(Salem, Oregon)

We replaced our 40 year-old chocolate brown Kitchen Aid dishwasher with a double drawer stainless steel Fisher and Paykel in March 2002.

We had a number of repair problems with it while under warranty and then spent hundreds of dollars on repairs from certified F & P repairmen over the next few years. Most of the parts were replaced and it continued to breakdown every 6-12 months. In August 2009 an authorized repairman declared the double-drawer not repairable--or cheaper to buy a new one.

The Fisher & Paykel customer care office has had a "file number" open on our dishwasher since we had numerous break-downs, but have refused to help. They haven't helped with the repairs--by either offering their certified repairman with a miracle cure or offering us another dishwasher--or even a partial credit to buy a new machine--not even $100 off to try our luck again.

We tried the high-end $1,500 Fisher and Paykel and spent that much in repairs only to get seven years of poor reliability out of the machine. Yeah--it looks great and works just fine--when its working.

In looking through dishwasher ratings before we invest in another dishwasher, we discovered that the Fisher and Paykel double drawer scored dead last out of 46 dishwashers tested in reliability in some consumer guides. Buyers beware.

Pros
- looks great
- works fine when it works!

Cons
- poor reliability

Flooding draws - missing flap valve? NEW
by: Anonymous

Both the top and bottom draws have an overflow at the back of the draw. If the draw fills up and fails to drain properly the overflow takes the excess water out the back and into the base of the dishwasher. This might result in an Fl (flood) error on the draw(s). It sound to me that your drain hoses are not draining properly. At the base of each draw where the drain hose connects there should be a little flap valve. This a very flimsy design but works very well if it is intact. My guess is that these are missing (on both drain hoses).

FYI I just did this repair myself. Just need to buy a new drain hose which has this flap (valve) included.

Hope that helps Anthony O, Australia.

Poor Choice NEW
by: Mike M.

We bought a double drawer F/P after remolding our kitchen in 2005. We had problems from the start with the d/w and after seven warranty calls we managed to get two years service out of the machine. Then we had an independent service company replace parts that we defective for approx. $300.00. We got 6 months service after this expense and at that point decided to call it quits.

This is the worst aplliance I've ever purchased.

FIRE Hazard !!!! NEW
by: donaldinlondon

Went on holiday for 2-weeks and returned home to find the dishwasher had somehow managed to turn itself on al by itself!! An F1 error code was showing (flood warning) and the motor had burned itself out. There is no evidence of any flooding having occurred! I have no idea how long the unit had been working but it must have been for quite sometime. I have undertaken some research and have heard of a similar incident where a similar thing happened resulting in a house fire. I am trying to contact the people concerned as I write. I believe I returned home just in time because my machine was red hot. The only way i could turn the thing off was at the mains - the power-off buttons worked for only a few seconds before the machine restarts again.

THIS MACHINE IS DANGEROUS AND A FIRE HAZARD!!! I am having it removed. A V O I D !!!!!

Two drawer dishwasher NEW
by: Laurie Wozniak

Bought this two drawer model in 2005 and the only thing wrong is that when the top drawer runs the bottom drawer fills the bottom with spent water. And when the bottom drawer is run the top drawer fills the bottom with extra water. Any suggestions?
