Fisher & Paykel Double DishDrawer DD603M

by JP
(San Francisco, CA, USA)

I've had the Iridium stainless steel double DishDrawer for about 3 years (bought it new on Ebay).

Things I like about it:
- I can keep one drawer clean and one dirty and just load/unload as needed.
- Easy/eco-friendly to run smaller loads in a single drawer, as opposed to using a full-size dishwasher.
- Looks cool.
- Can run one load of heavy-duty stuff and one load of delicate stuff at same time.
- The fast/"eco" option takes only 38 minutes, uses less energy than regular cycle and gets most dishes clean.
- Lots of cycle choices
- Can be easily "locked" so kids can't start up machine
- Electronic display shows you where in cycle it's at (wash, rinse, dry, etc.)
- Uses very little water and EnergyStar rated - eco-friendly
- Quiet compared to other dishwashers I have known

Things I don't like about it:
- Dirty water sometimes backs up into one drawer when the other is running -- yuck! Since I'm not sure if this is a dishwasher issue or a plumbing issue, it's not a deal-breaker for me, but it is annoying.
- No enough top-rack space
- Shows fingerprints, like all stainless

All in all, I like this dishwasher, and would buy one again. Plus everyone who comes over thinks it's cool.

Fisher & Paykel NEW
by: Pam C.

I recently had a back injury that makes bending difficult, and was excited to find a DW that had a convenient drawer. Paid much more than I wanted to in order to have that convenience. Had installed by someone very familiar with the brand, and have had a 2nd plumber in to verify the install. Bottom line, this DW does not do it's job! I have never had a load yet (for 6 months) that I haven't had to wipe i/4 of the silverware and rewash at least a few items. The single bottom spray head is just too wimpy to blast the dishes clean. If you have several bowls, you need to nest them every third slot, or they won't get clean. The cinfiguration is just not right for the mix of dishes we use. If your glasses are more than a mini size, you'll need to put them on the bottom, or else nothing fits underneath. Then you just used up one of your two main "aisles" and can't put plates or bowls there. PROS: Very quiet, looks great, don't have to bend over to empty it. But for an expensive DW (over $1000 category) I had expected a better cleaning job at the very least.

Yes, you have a plumbing issue NEW
by: Brian

If the drain lines are not installed according to the manufacturers instructions it is possible for one compartment to back up into the other.

If anyone is having this problem, you the owner can get the instructions and by following them explicitly you can get your drains to function correctly.

If you have a installer, plumber or handyman you can trust they should be able to follow the instructions easily. Of course, the fact that you are having this problem indicates that your person isn't prone to reading and/or following instructions, so you may need another person to do the work.

I owned one of the original models to come to the states. The only problem I had was related to the original engineering of the electronics. Which wasn't properly designed to handle the higher current loads caused by the lower voltage in this country, compared to the manufacturers' country of origin.

These problems do exist in other machines but aren't as obvious as there aren't other compartments for the backed up water to stand in when it doesn't drain correctly. Almost all FP problems are directly related to improper installation. The devices are fussy and if people can't be bothered to install them correctly, they will cause the end user problems.

Good luck. :)

This machine is Awkward NEW
by: Anonymous

Pros
- the "flip down" hinges at the top for small items.
- the dedicated space for stemware.
- the stainless steel finish.

Cons
- too small to be practical
- the cost

There are just 2 people in my household, and it used to take a long time to fill up a traditional dishwasher. So I was excited about the prospect of 2 smaller dishwashing drawers. I have been using the Fisher Pykel for 2 years and it is the first machine I've purchased.

I miss the dishwasher that came with my condo. I was able to fit all items into to a bigger machine. The smaller drawers are just too small. One word I would use to sum up the machine is AWKWARD. It does a fine job cleaning, however. A video came with the Fisher Pykel - and I did not take the time to view it. Maybe if I had done so, my experience would be different.

Removing the utensil bin can create more room.

I find I use the top drawer exclusively. Call me lazy, but the bottom drawer is "so low". The drop drawer is much more convenient to load/unload.
