GE GLDT690TWW White Built-in Dishwasher with Hidden Controls
12 Place Settings, Energy Star, 7 Wash Cycles
For a built-in GE dishwasher that costs around $500, the GE GLDT690TWW has tons of features and options on offer. This particular GE Profile dishwasher has 7 cycles, 3 more than the usual cycles offered by other built-in models. It also comes with other great features, such as automatic temperature control, 5 wash levels, and two utility shelves.
Interior Features
The GE GLDT690TWW can boast of 7 cycles. Most of the other GE built-in dishwashers only have 4 cycles. The different cycles are: normal wash, light wash, heavy wash, SaniWash, for glasses, rinse only and speed wash. There is a cycle for just about every type of load. The SaniWash cycle is also found in other GE Profile dishwashers but that is just because it is a very important addition. It helps remove 99.999% of germs and bacteria.
There are 5 wash levels available, which makes the GE GLDT690TWW ready to clean any type of load, no matter how soiled. For the dishwasher to gauge just how soiled the dishes are, a CleanSensor laser probes the load.
Unlike other GE dishwashers with a 2/4/8 Delay Start, the GE GLDT690TWW has the broadest range of 1 to 24 hours. The dishwasher can actually be programmed to operate at about the same time every day.
There is an automatic temperature control. The temperature is regulated to a safe range while providing more heat to loads that are more soiled. As with other GE Profile dishwashers, the GE GLDT690TWW operates quietly. It has a Quiet Package 56, which makes this possible.
The interior is made of shiny, stainless steel. The material is durable and rust-free, appropriate for surfaces that constantly get wet. The audible end of cycle signal makes things very convenient as the user does not have to keep on looking at the dishwasher to see if the cycle is over. The sound is loud enough to catch any user’s attention.
The GE GLDT690TWW offers energy efficiency, as evident in its Energy Star qualification.
Exterior Features
This particular model has a white exterior. However, there are also stainless steel and black options with this same set of features.
The GE GLDT690TWW comes with electronic controls with three button touchpad and a digital display, with a two-digit countdown.
For an affordable price, the user is treated with 7 washing cycles complete with the SaniWash option that kills off germs. Other more expensive models from the GE Profile series only have four cycles.
The GE GLDT690TWW is energy efficient. It is Energy Star compliant.
With electronic controls, the dishwasher is modern and easy to use. The audible end of cycle signal is especially good.
Cleaning is still powerful even if there are so many features offered along with the energy efficiency and the affordable price. The GE GLDT690TWW comes with a limited one year warranty on parts and labor.
Disadvantages
It would have been perfect if the GE GLDT690TWW had come with the SmartDispense system that is common in other GE dishwashers.
We bought a Kitchen Aid, but our opening was not high enough to accomodate it, and the GE was an inch shorter so we reluctantly went with it (feeling that GE was not the last name in dishwashers). I was pleasantly surprised. Installation was reasonably easy, and the machine is quieter than the Maytag we had previously, but louder than the Bosch. On the other hand, this dishwasher actually cleans the dishes, whereas the Bosch didn't.
This machine was cheaper than the Kitchen Aid, and overall I've been very pleased with the performance thusfar.
