GE Potscrubber 580

The Potscrubber line may be one of GE's staples, but the 580 model is fairly old. I bought this house with the dishwasher already installed, and I suspect it's the original unit from when the house was built in the 90's.
The PROS: The dishwasher is still working! It has not leaked yet nor have any of the interior plastic parts broken. These are two problems I have had with other dishwashers I've owned in the past. It does have a handful of options which allow me to wash a little bit less and save on energy costs just a little bit more.
Even though it's old, it doesn't necessarily look out of place or out of date. Classic colors (with a reversible face panel) and classic controls stay under the radar when your eyes sweep the room.
The CONS: About those controls... they are a little ambiguous in their meaning. I had to do some experimenting to figure out which combinations of settings changed what.
And then there was the one instance where I smelled something burning... only to figure out that my dishwasher (although it sounded like it was running smoothly) actually had no water in it! The bare heating element was extremely hot and cheap plastic cups had started to melt.
It's only done that once so far. I don't run this unit unless I am available to monitor it.
