GE Profile

by Karen
(Florida)

I absolutely abhor this dishwasher. All the appliances in my house came as a package deal from the builder but only have problems with the dishwasher. I have owned and operated it since January 2006 and ever since day one it has done a horrible job of cleaning.

I have tried almost all the different brands of dishwashing detergent sold but none have made a bit of difference. In comparison to the old model (Whirlpool) I had in my prior apartment, I would take the old one over this new GE Profile. The Whirlpool model was distinctively quieter and did a much better job on cleaning dishes, glasses and silverware.

For a dishwasher which is only 2 years old, this GE Profile ranks far below any other brand on the market, especially when a model which is 6 years old out performs it.

I definitely will not recommend this product to anyone and have written to my builder to request that they change companies when outfitting any further new homes. I have been in contact with other new homeowners who have the GE appliance package which was included in their purchase and 97% have agreed with my findings. If the economy were not so bad, I would trash it and purchase a new one immediately.

However, my finances at the moment do not allow for this so I have resorted to hand washing my dishes unless I have a large number of dinner guests which is when I do actually utilize the Profile dishwasher but inevitably have to run it at least twice to accomplish getting the dishes clean.

The Worst Dishwasher Ever!
by: Joe

Prior to our GE Profile dishwaher we had a Miele for 14 years. Dishes came out amazingly clean everytime. We moved and inhereted a GE Profile Quiet Power 7 dishwasher and are totally disappointed. It appears you get all the bells and whistles with this model but GE forgot one thing....the purpose of the dishwasher is to get the dishes clean! Would never buy a GE dishwasher and am looking to replace this piece of junk as soon as possible.

There are better choices out there
by: Janean

This dishwasher ran fairly quiet when it was brand new but after a few months it got louder. It also does not wash the dishes as well as some other dishwashers I've had. I've every kind of dishwasher soap on the market and this dishwasher is just not a very good one.

I have to wash my dishes before puting them in the dishwasher. I am not pleased with this dishwasher and now an looking for a new one when this one is only 2 1/2 years old.

have to rewash dishes
by: Sheila

I am very dissatisfied with this machine. I have a water softener and use the recommended detergent and drying agent.I soak my cutlery in the sink until I am ready to start the dishwasher, and it still NEVER comes out clean.

I have to check each item before I can put it on the shelf, and usually have to rewash 25% of dishes and 100% of tea mugs, as well as the cutlery. This unit is 2.5 years old and the rubber gasket on the bottom of the door has a six inch split. This unit is being replaced shortly.

NEVER BUY GE APPLIANCES and here's why!
by: Unhappy GE Owner in Ontario

CRAP! This was the most expensive dishwasher at the Home Depot therefore I expected it to be the best. Boy was I wrong!!! I have had it for about 2 years now and I am terribly disappointed. It does not clean my dishes! Gunk gets caught up inside the water "propellers" somehow, especially the center one, and prevents the water from properly spraying out. The center one in particular has a gel coming out of the little holes. I have often found myself pulling stuff out of the holes with tweezers and toothpicks. The wheels constantly pop off, and the end caps for the top rack broke off ages ago and I've had to be creative with waterproof tape to prevent the drawer rack from smashing on the floor when you pull it out. How disappointing! I will say that my GE washer and dryer suck too! I had a washer problem that took 9 WEEKS and $250 TO FIX because each time the repair guy came out he'd have to order another part!!!!! And my dryer, although it works, it rips the zippers off of everything!!!!!!!! NEVER BUY GE!!!! NEVER BUY GE!!!

Not a fan
by: John Schulte

We installed a GE Profile Performance Quite Power III and when it worked, we got clean dishes and it was quiet. This was really cool, until it stopped working (it would not pump out the water). We called for repair ($99 SERVICE CALL) and after maybe 20 minutes and tring a couple of inexpensive fixes, the technician concluded that the electronics panel was shot. Ballpark, this is a $300 repair (probably more).

The guy was cool and rather than pay to install a new panel, he suggested buying a new dishwasher. He mentioned something about steam/moisture and electronic panels being incompatible, and suggested we look at a basic unit with a turn dial if we can find one. The technician waived the $99 service fee...very cool. I can't bring myself to buy another GE.

Glad I'm not the only one....

To have trouble with this piece of crap dishwasher. We bought it at a scratch-n-dent store and thought it was a good deal. With a name like GE it had to be good, right? Wrong! The major complaint I have is about the wheels constantly falling off! It's not really loud and if I rinse my dishes off they come clean. Every once in a while I have to clean and scrub the dishwasher itself where the door matches up with the compartment(go check your dishwasher around that seal, you may find goopy black stuff). Shame on GE!!

BROKEN WHEELS!
by: Anonymous

AGREED...THIS IS A PIECE OF JUNK. I'VE OWNED A 10 YR. OLD WHIRLPOOL THAT CLEANED DISHES BETTER THAN THIS MODEL WHEN NEW. I HAVE HAD IT FOR FOUR YEARS NOW AS IT WAS A BUILDER KITCHEN PACKAGE IN MY THEN NEWLY BUILT HOME. THE WHEELS HAVE BEEN BROKEN FOR OVER SIX MONTHS! I HAVE TO REPOSITION THEM BEFORE RUNNING TO ALLOW THE BOTTOM CLEANING PROPELLER TO ROTATE. I WILL BE REPLACING THE WHEELS TO GET BY FOR NOW, BUT I CAN NOT WAIT TO GET RID OF THIS PIECE OF JUNK! DO NOT BUY ANY OF THIS LINE. THE FAN HAS ALSO RECENTLY BROKEN ON MY CONVECTION OVEN!!!!

bad bad design
by: Anonymous

We have had this dishwasher for two and a half years. It's quiet but you have to pre- rinse the dishes very well in order to get clean dishes in the end. One of the biggest complaints I have is---what's up with the plastic wheels on the bottom rack-half of them have broken which makes the bottom rack lean on the agitator element and it won't go around. I am having a hard time finding replacement wheels for this. Right now I can only use the upper portion of the dishwasher which is a total waste of energy for that little bit of area. Along with their really bad GE Profile microwave-which blew in less that a year and a half-I will never, ever buy GE again.

Rinse agent? Ive never seen a dishwasher this crappy. One of my favorite reviews for this dishwasher was.." It would be better if I let my dog climb inside and lick everything clean." GE should be ashamed of themselves for the Profile :(

GE PROFILE DISHWASHER
by: Anonymous

I share most of your pains on GE dishwashers. BUT I have found a solution for the wheels falling off. Go to your local Reliable appliance centre or similar and give them your model number. There is a replacement set of wheels for GE profile series and a complete set was less than 20 dollars. Still not satified with GE, but I'm not putting wheels back on everyday or finding melted wheels in the bottom anymore. I don't know why GE doesn't replace free of charge.

Cheap, Junk!
by: Anonymous

I too have a GE Profile and purchased this brand to go in my new home. It is too loud, does not clean like the others do, and the wheels are constantly falling off. I should have looked this up before i purchased this piece of junk. GE must be having them made over seas and this is what happens when you cut cost

GE PROFILE
by: Anonymous

I AGREE THIS DISHWASHER SUCKS. I CANT BELIEVE WE SPENT NEARLY $1000 DOLLARS ON THIS PEICE OF JUNK THAT WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO REPLACE. IT HAS NEVER CLEANED PROPERLY.AND NOW EVERY TIME I PULL THE BOTTOM RACK OUT ALL THE WHEELS FALL OFF. THE BOTTOM RACK DOSN'T FIT IN AND LINE UP RIGHT. IT IS A BAD DISIGN. AND A WASTE OF MONEY. I AM NOW WASHING ALL DISHES BY HAND. THERE IS NO WAY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. IT IS ONLY ONE YEAR OLD AND WE NEED A NEW ONE.

GE Profile Dishwasher? Don't Waste Your Money!
by: Anonymous

We have a GE Profile Dishwasher Model PDW9980N20SS. It was more money than the Bosch sitting next to it at the store, but we had decided to purchase all GE Profile appliances for the new kitchen..MISTAKE!!

This dishwasher has not cleaned from day one, and after trying all of GE's suggestions, we called for service. Now, 7 service calls later, it still doesn't clean and the service tech has no idea why. He contacted GE technical assistance and they were not just totally unhelpful, but plainly rude. We've had several parts changed out, upped the water temperature, ran it on longer cycles, added heat cycle, etc. etc. all to no avail. Then I checked online and found we're not the only ones experiencing this problem with this model. We want a dishwasher that cleans...no more,no less...that's what we paid for. Stop the RUNAROUND, GE--replace this worthless piece of stainless steel!

Rinse agent
by: Anonymous

Is your rise agent full? Many cleaning issue can be resolved with adding this. Make sure you use the liquid and keep it full it helps the soil and water slide right off of the dishes.
