GE Triton GSD5500G00WW

by Donna
(Plainfield, Il. United States)

The GE Triton GSD5500G00WW Dishwasher is part of the Profile series that GE offers. This model features 6 different washing modes, Sani-wash, Pots and Pans, Normal, China and Crystal, Light Wash and Rinse only. It has other washing options like heated drying, lock (lockout of touch panel controls) and delay start (2, 4, 8 hours). It also has a LED status indicator to let you know which process of washing is happening. It can handle a load of up to 12 place settings.

This particular model of the Profile series is on the lower end and doesn’t have some of the finer bells and whistles of the upper grade models available. It does however do a good job for the average family. The controls are very easy to understand and operate, all touch panel controls. The bottom rack accommodates plates very nicely and has a removable silverware basket to give you more room if needed. The top rack has a decent layout for cups and smaller items. The unit is a little on the noisy side.

My unit is going on about 6 years old now and is starting to give me some troubles. I did have one electronic problem within the first year of purchasing the Triton but the warranty covered it completely. Now more recently I’m having problems with the unit not completely draining all the water in the tub.

I have researched this issue and have come to the conclusion I am having a problem with the drain cycle timer and/or solenoid that opens the drain valve. This is due to GE not having a very good screening of debris going into the drain pump and overworking and clogging the system. For the average family and normal usage it will provide years of service but do not expect it to hold up from more than normal use.

Overall I give this unit a 3 out of 5 rating.

numerous problems
by: Anonymous

I have had mine a few years now granted, but less than 2 years into ownership, my bottom rack rusted out, so the place I bought it, not GE, got me another one.

It never really cleaned well after that, and now it has blown the motor. Cheaper to replace the dishwasher than to repair.

My old dishwasher that I had before I bought this house, is still alive and kicking at almost 12 now, it was a Kenmore.

Long term life on any GE appliance is less than best as we went out and picked all GE appliances, so far we have replaced the washer, and this new one is going too, the freezer has had problems and now the dishwasher.
So, maybe good at first, but not long term
