KENMORE 13742

by Usman Zaib
(Islamabad, Capital Territory, Pakistan)

I bought this high quality KENMORE luxurious dishwasher from a local market in my area. It happened when I was really fed up of my existing one which caused me a lot of hassle. After a thorough search in market I bought this one for almost $600 that makes rupees 30000 thousand in my local currency.

KENMORE dishwasher is unique in its design but like other expensive dishwashers doesn't have a lot of extra features. This did not bother me as it can fulfill my requirements of dish washing. Washing has always been very convenient and time saving for me using KENMORE 13742

The dishwasher has a delay start option and also a quick wash cycle. The noise during the working is very low as it has extra sound insulation built in it. I can easily manage to handle its functions along with doing other thing at the same time.

Since i have bought KENMORE 13742 i am very happy with the results it has shown me and for me it is the most reliable dish washers i have ever had. I would definitely recommend it to those who are looking for something that looks good as well as serves good.

I have heard and seen some comments, negative ones, about its durability but it has been quite a while that I am using it and don't have any issue regarding its durability or functioning. Infect I find it one of the most efficient and reliable one among its competitors or at least among the ones i had used in the past.

good blend of reliability and performance NEW
by: Anonymous

Pros
- fairly quiet
- cleaning ability is good

Cons
- plastic tub
- little bit expensive than others

In comparison tests, this dishwasher performs well all around. It's a good blend of reliability and performance. We have complain about parts failing or breaking, as well as the lack of a stainless-steel tub. Cleaning performance is good as well noise and loading flexibility too.

kenmore 13742 NEW
by: Anonymous

we purchased a 13742 model dishwasher 2 years ago. Less then 2 years old we had to have a repairman in because it was becoming very noisy. we were told that we needed to put it a new motor.
The service call was 122.00 plus the motor would cost approx. 500.00. Considering we paid 599.00 fot it, we decided to purchase a new dishwasher.
Not a Kenmore.
When we contacted Sears corporate office and local sales store, they did not seem to care too much about our problem. They just seemed to want to sell us another dishwasher which we did not buy.

overall great NEW
by: Anonymous

As a working couple we have to finish household duties very fast. So one year ago we bought a Kenmore 13742. It’s economically priced. Compared to other branded dishwasher it quiet and has a high performance rate.

The major drawback of Kenmore 13742 dishwasher are that it doesn’t have many of the extra features that most of the other dishwashers have and it has a plastic tub where as other models have stainless steel tubs. The company does this to reduce the cost of production there by reducing the price of the machine.

Kenmore 13742 dishwasher starts very slow and makes quick wash cycles, it also has extra insulation for reducing the noise during functioning.

Our dishwasher has a white outer body so it needs a regular cleaning or it quickly looks dirty. It consumes low electricity. The most attractive features of this dishwasher are its low price, operation cost efficient and low maintenance.

Other features are it has an electronic control panel, 10 place settings, 6 wash cycles, and a food disposal unit like other high-end models. It also has a soil sensor and child lock system.

Great value! NEW
by: Anonymous

I recently purchased this Kenmore dish washer to use in my new home. I have been very satisfied with it so far, and would recommend it to someone looking for a dish washer. The biggest plus for this machine has got to be the price.

It works great, and is very efficient. It wasn't the cheapest one we looked at, but it was far from the most expensive. Overall, it is a great value for your money. Another big benefit is how quiet it runs.

I have three small children, and machine I owned before this one would wake them up if I ran it when they were napping, even if they were in their room. Well that's not a problem with this unit.

Even if they are napping in the living room, they keep on sleeping now. Just as my kids are a reason for one of the benefits, they are also a reason for my biggest problem with this machine. My little girl is starting to get curious and loves to push buttons.

Well I can hardly keep her away from our dishwasher. She's always starting it or stopping it, and if I could go back I'd buy a dishwasher that has the buttons concealed on the top of the door.

The other disadvantage of this model is having to use a rinse aid. If you really want it to work well, you have to use Jet Dry or something similar for the best results. I've never been a fan of using those types of products, but I've found the dishes come out spotty if I don't.

It certainly able to wash more dishes NEW
by: Anonymous

Pros
- Speedy Wash Time
- Inexpensive/Medium price

Cons
- Needs quite a bit of soap
- A little smaller than other models

My large family goes through an awful lot of dishes each night and the other dishwashers we had bought were not able to stand up to the heavy loads. We were stuck with doing several small loads each day which lead to wasting a lot of money, soap, and time. With the Kenmore 13742 we are certainly able to wash more dishes than we previously had been able to with other brands.

Not only is it a little larger than some other brands, but it really doesn’t need very much soap in order to clean the dishes very well. I put in a little less soap than would fill up the tray, start it up, and forget about it. Whenever I come back I find myself with a load of beautifully clean, sparkly dishes.

Remember the days of stuck on grimy plates with little soap scum bits everywhere? Well, with this washer those days are in the past because the water pressure in this washer is incredibly strong and it really does clean the dishes as perfectly as I have ever seen. With my old washer I even had to re-wash some of the silverware after taking it out of the machine just to feel safe to eat on it.

That meant twice the wasted money in bills and the rest of my family that did not want to waste the time re-washing the silverware probably consumed some. I feel safe knowing that with the Kenmore 13742 I don’t have to worry about the safety and cleanliness of my family. What more could you ask for?

low marks for long term durability NEW
by: Anonymous

The Kenmore 13742 is in the mid-price range of dishwashers. Although it’s comparable to dishwashers that are twice the price. This model comes in white, black, or bisque. It is also available in a stainless steel model if you’re willing to add an extra $100 on to the price.

This model has very low noise because it has extra sound insulation. It also has a great cleaning ability, it offers a quick wash cycle for those times when you need to clean your dishes quickly, and it also has a delay start feature.

As with all Kenmore models this model does meet Energy Star standards. This Kenmore model has a plastic tub, opting for this rather than the stainless steel tubs that more expensive models offer, because the plastic tub helps in keeping the price down.

So long term it is less durable than the more expensive models that do offer the stainless steel tubs. And it doesn’t have as many of the extra features as the pricer models.

Overall I think this dishwasher is a really good blend of reliabiliy , performance, and price. I give it very high marks for cleaning ability, using less energy, and extra quiet operation. And low marks for long term durability, for being less stylish, and for having fewer of the extra features.

Never seen dishes come out so clean NEW
by: Anonymous

The Kenmore 13742 has been the best dishwasher that I have ever used. In all my years of washing dishes I have never seen dishes come out so clean even without the use of an abundance of soap. There were no soap marks left on and of the plates, cups, etc.

Also, more importantly there was no food left on any of the dishes either. Really, this is the only thing I care about in regards to the performance of my dishwasher. I do not need any of the gadgets and gizmos that some of the other dishwashers include, especially the over priced ones at some of my friends' house's.

I paid about $700 almost 9 months ago when moving info my house, and I have to say, I am extremely pleased with my investment. Sure you don't have all the bells and whistles as a dishwasher would that costs more then twice as much, but you have a reliable dishwasher from a reputable company that does exactly what its suppose to do. Wash my dishes.

One of the other things that I have noticed about the appliance is that there is virtually no sound coming from it. I don't have to turn up the television while it is going through certain cycles during the wash. I have had to do this with every other dishwasher I have ever used. I can even take a nap on the couch which is what I like to do when I finish eating much of the time, which is also when I am most likely to run a dish cycle.

Now with the less noise comes what might be the next most important, behind cleaning the dishes. I have noticed a slight decrease in my electric bill. So as the dishwasher lessens up on the noise, it is also saving you energy which all at the same time is ultimately cleaning you dishes. With all of these factors combined I feel that I got a good bargain on the dishwasher I purchased.

Quiet and energy efficient NEW
by: Rachael

I absolutely LOVE this dishwasher of mine. So far, I haven't found any flaws with the dishwasher or design. I replaced the Whirlpool Quiet Partner II last month, which was a somewhat efficient machine. However, after its unexpected demise, we did some dishwasher shopping, and the Kenmore 13742 came out ahead for us in just about everything.

While it has a heftier price tag than we originally would have wished, it has been well worth the extra money. I am an avid cook and baker, and I constantly have a LOT of large dishes, platters, pots, and pans to clean. The Whirlpool wasn't up to the job of any heavy duty washing, but the new Kenmore has withstood the toughest of my jobs. The top rack is adjustable and removable, so I can fit all my big stuff into it. It has a high pressure rinse, which gets off most of the foodstuffs that are left on from a quick pre-rinse.

It also has a built-in food disposal, so it doesn't get clogged with the gunk that builds up in typical dishwashers.

I purchased my new Kenmore dishwasher at Sears Grand Outlet for just under $600 including tax, which seems to be a pretty fair price for this model. It runs extremely quietly, which is fantastic, and it is extremely energy efficient. Overall, this is by far the best dishwasher I have ever had, and I recommend it to anybody who has the extra cash to purchase a good model of a dishwasher. Sears frequently runs specials and discounts on their appliances, and many times if you ask the sales people, they will give a heads-up as to when certain appliances are going to be on sale.

Ask around when you get the chance and you just might find a fantastic deal on this dishwasher.

Basic features NEW
by: Anonymous

Kenmore 13742 is the dishwasher I have its a great dish washer that does the job great. It has never let me down once. The hot water cycle is what really does the job. Every time I clean a pot or pan it always gets in the corners and never leaves dirt behind.

Its runs really quietly which means I can hear it but its not really loud at all I makes more of a humming noise. One of the best upsides is the fact that its doesn't cost a lot in fact it's pretty cheap compared to the other models. The down side is the fact that it really doesn't come with a lot of features like the other models. It doesn't have any stainless steel parts which makes it look a little plastic looking.

I haven't had any problem with it at all the closest i have ever come was using dish washing soap which is really all my fault and it really did make a mess. All in all it works like a champ. It does everything i need it to do and just a bit more too.

I have cleaned little glass shot glasses that come out nice and clean. I have never had any mistakes or bad experiences with it aside from the fact it doesn't have much in features other than the basics.
