Kenmore Quiet Guard Standard 587.16259402

by Mark
(Lima, OH)

I would not buy another Kenmore dishwasher. In the past, I have had good luck with Kenmore appliances, but I've been very disappointed with the last two Kenmore Dishwashers I have owned. The 587 is the most recent model that we bought a little over a year ago.

Within months of buying it, it would stop mid-cycle and the Heat Dry and Hi Temp lights would flash. I'm told this is supposed to indicate a power failure. This happens on a regular basis, when there has been no power failure.

We had the Sears Service Tech out and he said the control panel was bad and replaced it. Within a couple months, we started having the same problem again. We called Sears out again (still under warrenty) and he couldn't "find anything wrong with it". Like is so often the case, it didn't stop mid-cyle when the repair person was there! We waited another couple months and called Sears again. They now tell us it is out of warrenty and will cost $65 just for the service call.

I've seen numerous threads on the internet about people that are having the exact same problem as me. The service techs that are responding just keep replacing the control panels. I've seen several times where this has not fixed the problem.

I decided to work on it myself. I can get a replacement panel on-line for $65, where Sears would charge me $65 for the visit and another $120 for the part. I've replaced the panel before on my last Kenmore dishwasher and it's easy to do.

With the quality problems that Sears and their suppliers are having, I don't plan to buy an appliance from them again.

Contro Panel Failure NEW
by: Anonymous

Lights and buttons stopped working properly, and then unit overheated and tripped thermal fuse. This sears dishwasher was just over 14 months old and it cost me $140 in parts for me to fix it myself. It is highly unlikely I will buy another Sears dishwasher.

Quiet Guard Sucks NEW
by: Anonymous

We paid extra for a quiet dishwasher when we built our home several years ago. This dishwasher is loud, leaks(had to replace stripped washers|)came that way! We had several hurricanes that year and Sears refused to come out to fix it since they were making more money on the people that were buyingnew appliances for their homes that had to be fixed. The warrenty ran out and now we are stuck with a lemon. This is not the first time I have had issueswith Sears and I will NEVER BUY FROM THEM AGAIN!

Piece of Crap NEW
by: Mark W

I have had the same problems. I have had 5 service calls on this machine. The lights would flash and it would quit. The control panel was replaced each time. Luckily, I had extended warranty. Now that warranty is up and the machine is not heating now. You could not pay me to buy another Kenmore dishwasher!
