Maytag Quiet Series 300

by Regina R.
(Wood Dale, IL)

We bought our dishwasher from Sears. Sears took care of everything from delivering it, to removing our old machine.

We purchased our dishwasher in December, 2006 after our previous dishwasher failed. (Just in time for my holiday baking & major mess clean-ups!)

We especially like the quiet feature since our kitchen is near our family room where we watch TV. Previous dishwashers we've had have been ear-deafening. This dishwasher is well insulated and is very quiet!

The dishwasher has been very reliable. It cleans well with a minimal amount of soap. I also ran out of my special rinse agent that I use to keep spots off of glasses. And I found that the dishwasher does a good job of keeping glassware spot-free, even without the rinse agent! That's a plus, and a cost-saver! It also has a light feature to tell us the load is done and is drying. The light remains on until I open up the dishwasher to empty it. I highly recommend it.

We had a GE dishwasher previously. I can't recall the model number. But it was extremely loud!

I highly recommend the Maytag Quiet Series 300 dishwashing machines. They are great value. High reliability at a decent price-point. After owning this one, I would not stray from this model as it's been extremely reliable and very quiet while it does its job!

Terrible Dishwasher
by: Anonymous

I bought this dishwasher a year and a half ago. It does a poor job at cleaning the dishes, and often leaves debris in the glasses. The lights on the front panel have stopped working, and now the buttons on the front panel wont start the dishwasher at all. I've seen dozens of complaints about this problem on this review board as well as others. The lowest price I've found for a replacement front panel is $100. I've had enough, and am just going to replace the whole dishwasher-- with anything but another Maytag!

Maytag Quietseries 300
by: DavidH (San Antonio)

I have read many of the criticisms of the dishwasher and I also have a problem. The soap appears baked onto the dishes leaving white residue on ever surface. My first clue as to the cause was when I started noticing soap tracks down the inside of the door after the cycle had completed. That leaves only two items that can cause the problem: 1) from the pc board there is a linkage to a solenoid that releases the soap door. The linkage is usually controlled by a signal from the PC board which energizes the solenoid which queues the latch to the door. If there is a timing problem on the pc board the soap door may open late (during rinse cycle) and the rinse water would disperse the soapy water all over the dishes just prior to the sanitizing rinse and heated dry which bakes to saop on to the dishes, or 2) the soap door linkage becomes encrusted with caked on soap which delays opening the door until the rinse cycle starts, or 3) the solenoid that controls the soap door linkage has become sluggish in its operation.

Check by loading dishwasher. Leave soap door open. Do not add soap. close door and start the cycle. Open the front door and add soap once you hear the water agitating. Do NOT close the soap door. Check your dishes after the wash completes. If it is clean then one of the aforementioned parts are the problem.

Start with the soap door latch mechanism. There should be no resistance. Next check that the solenoid plunger enters and exits the solenoid body very smoothly, if not then replace it. Actually replace it anyway because it is the most likely culprit. And lastly replace the pc board.

To help remove baked on soap scum try running a load of the stained dishes with 2-cups of vinegar in the water. Use the procedure in the first paragraph as to when to add the vinegar.

Sure hopes this helps.

When Turkeys Fly
by: Dan in Texas

The Maytag Quiet Series 300 was appropriately named because it is real quiet when it never works. The control board ribbon cable behind the outer control panel seems to be subject to corrosion from a poorly designed seal. Maytag maintains that this is a unique problem but a 5 minute review of hits on Google when searching "Maytag quiet series 300 problems" reveals many, many, others are having this problem too. Some people report changing the control board several times over a 5 year period. The Maytag repairman (Mr Carlson from WKRP) must be busting his hump trying to keep up with all the repairs. I can almost hear his voice as he opens the dishwasher door panel and discovers water getting in; "as god as my witness, I thought it would stay dry".

Pure Junk!!
by: Don

We purchased the unit new a couple of years ago. We haven't had problems with the touchpad as so many others here have complained about, probably because it hasn't been used much. It simply doesn't clean the dishes! We tried everything: Different soaps, adjusting the heat on the hot water heater, rinsing the dishes first, compared to not pre-rinsing them, but absolutely nothing has worked. I called Maytag customer service and was advised to "not" pre-rinse the dishes, as the soap activates by hitting the dirty particles. We tried not rinsing, and it didn't help,it made matters worse!! This is one $500.00 pink elephant that sits in the kitchen and does nothing. Have to admit that it does look good though. BTW, I agree that the positive comments here sound more like an advertisement, then an honest rating!!

Legacy Quiet Series 300 not as good as old model
by: Andy

This dishwasher is frankly terrible. It's baseline operation is annoyingly loud, but if food gets caught in the little grinder, then the there is a miserable grinding noise. We had it fixed under warranty once, but were told the same fix would be at least $120 out of warranty and that it would likely break again.

Of course, that would maybe be acceptable if it actually cleaned dishes! We rinse our dishes almost completely clean to get them cleaned in the dishwasher, and even then it bakes on food.

This replaced a 20 year old hotpoint - frankly, that old model was quieter and cleaned better, and we replaced it because it was not particularly good on either account.

Maytag QuietSeries 300 -TRASH
by: Pam

I have owned 4 dishwashers and this one is the WORST!! Dishes come out dirtier than when they went it!!! I paid $750 for this piece of trash.
It is 3 years old and problems started 10 months after purchase.
I have replaced: the door latch 4 times, the control panel, the cutlery basket (it just cracked and flatware would fall thru and stop the wash arm) and the docking stations for the water supply to the wash arms. Wash arms keep filling up with food, as if dirty water was getting in the clean water supply. But Maytag says this can't happen. The service tech replaced all 4 wash arms because he couldn't understand why the dishes came out dirtier than went it after checking water temp, pressure, hoses, garbage disposal, filters.
Very disappointed in Maytag's customer service. They know this model is a lemon and won't stand by it.

Maytag Update
by: Steve C

My original posting regarding the Series 300 has been removed, probably due to a politically incorrect comment about product testing using rice bowls and chop sticks.

My 300 has also been removed. Even with hours-long cycle times, it simply did not clean dishes. After only about 6 months of use [if you can call it that], I pulled the unit out and tried to GIVE it to a used appliance dealer. He WOULD NOT take it - even for FREE - so I had to pay to take it to the dump. I promised myself never to buy another Maytag product.

So I replaced it with a Whirlpool Quiet Partner I. Some of you already know where I am headed with this story - another trip to the dump. I did not realize that Maytag & Whirlpool are the same company and two very good product names have been completely destroyed. I'll grant you that both ARE quiet, a feature accomplished by using a grossly undersized water pump. They should be called dish swishers instead.

I added another name to my never purchase again list and as an electrical contractor, I pass that information on to all of my customers. Oh No, they own AMANA too?? Please say it isn't so !! My 28 year old microwave is bound to give out SOMEDAY.

Horrible dishwasher!

Handle broke. Panel kept switching to rinse only (watch for that if you ran a load and the soap was not used). Now the front panel is totally gone, just a few random buttons work one in a while.

Notice how all the positive reviews sound too much like advertisements? Yes, it is quiet, I'll grant that, but it is a piece of junk otherwise. Maytag, if you are astroturfing this site, knock it off! Nobody is being fooled!

Piece of trash!
by: Betty Rutherford

This dishwasher is a piece of trash. We bought this dishwasher on February 10, 2008 while we were remodeling our kitchen. It seemed to work fine for about 6 months, and then I complained to my husband constantly that the dishwasher would not start and that the control panel acted as if it had no power to it.

My husband did not believe me that this dishwasher was having any problems because each time he would come to check it, it would start right up for him. I continued to have problems with the control panel, and it would work intermittently. Sometimes it would start, sometimes it would not.

This dishwasher is now 7 months outside the manufacturer warranty, and now the control panel is completely out and the dishwasher will not work. I did some research online to find out if there was possibly some type of reset button we were missing, and lo and behold I find this website with numerous complaints about problems with the control panel.

I have read these complaints and see where individuals have actually paid for new control panels themselves on defective dishwashers. Anyone interested in a class action suit against Maytag? I am NOT going to pay to have this thing fixed.

It is defective, and I will file whatever complaints with whatever entities I have to until I get this resolved. I don't give up easily. I will also find an attorney who will take this class action complaint if I can find enough people to join in.

This product should be RECALLED!
by: Janice

We've had multiple problems: door latch broke, lower rack rusted after about a year and part of it broke off and it smells when we run it. The inside black rubber is literally burning away - this is the smell! Wouldn't recommend this product and it should be RECALLED!

Absolutely Terrible Machine!
by: Anonymous

Have owned this model since Mother's Day and have had nothing but trouble since it has been installed. Dishes have come out dirtier than what they have gone in (most of the time) and now the soap packs are not being dissolved after a full wash on Hi Heat. Have had local tech come and service 4 different times and have been given a different reason for dirty dishes each time. We will definitely never buy a Maytag again!

As the name implies, it is very quiet
by: Karen

I purchased my Maytag dishwasher from Best Buy about 4 years ago and I love it! As the name implies, it is very quiet. I can carry on a conversation right next to it and hear everything that is said. I love the adjustable racks that allow me to put almost anything in to be cleaned.

It has a simple flat front with no buttons to push, just finger pads, so no dirt and grime build up. There are multiple cycles, such as pots and pans or sanitize to allow for any combination to get the job done. One of my favorite features is the ability to set it to start a few hours after I go to bed.

The dishwasher runs while I’m asleep and there is no worry about using all the hot water, and in the morning, all the dishes are clean, dry and ready to put away. This dishwasher is also more energy efficient. It uses less water and electricity, saving me money. I would definitely recommend this brand and model to others.

Worst Dishwasher Ever Purchased
by: Anonymous

I've had the Maytag for a couple of years. When it was installed the first three didn't even work! The door latch breaks easily and sticks making the door very hard to unlatch and open. Dishes on the top rack such as glasses or bowls might as well be left out as they come out dirtier than when they went in. I have had 3 repair men out to do various work on it from replacing the circuit board, replacing the door latch, and fixing the seals that the plumbing in the racks plug into.

This thing takes over 2 hours to do a wash cycle but half the time I still end up rewashing greasy bowls and glasses.

Save your money and buy a different brand. Maytag, never again.

Have had over fifteen service calls in the time I have owned it. Stressing us out. A&E services for warranty can't get it right ---Sears for that matter. Now we are not sure to extend the warrant for $300.00 or buy new after such a short time owning it. Argggggg.

Maytag is not Dependable

We purchased our maytag two years ago and now the thing is falling appart. I had to replace the door latch assembly a very simple task. Now the thing turns off during the wash cycle. I can say this when it did work properly it was a great machine. Now, well lets just say maytag IS NOT dependable. Two years and the thing starts going heywire. I guess for the price I can't complain to much.

This is the worst dishwasher ever! The control panel went dead one day after warranty ended. Six monthes later the door handle broke into two. The dishes don't always get cleaned and there are always spots on the glasses. The adjustable rack systems have all cracked, so they don't work. Now the wheels on the top rack have broken off! This machine is only four years old. I will never but another Maytag.

Control Panel won't light or work
by: Lisa G

Loved this from the start. No problems for over 1 1/2 years then bam!!! Worked 2 days ago and now went to run a load and there are no lights on the control panel. Tried to troubleshoot from manual and the web. Did everything. Took kick board off. Power is still there, not burned out.

From what I have been finding the latch and control panel are major issues.

I called Maytag, first they offered to send serivce rep. I told them I wanted more from them. Now they are willing to give me a 50% discount on the part. Better than nothing but shouldn't be happening in the first place.

Won't buy this brand again!!

Probelms with latch
by: Sarah

This dishwasher has worked well for us for a few years, but we are fighting with Maytag about the door latch assembly.

We replaced the assembly once last year and already the thing is broken again! Maytag only warranties parts for 90 days, so even though NUMEROUS people are having issues with the door latches, they refuse to stand behind it, and act as if they are unaware of the issue.

Look up Maytag dishwasher door latch on your search engine and see how many people have had problems. I will probably go with another company next time I purchase a dishwasher.

Doesn't remove tough dirt
by: Anonymous

2 stars

I have owned a Maytag Quiet Series 300 for a couple of years now. Admittedly, it does live up to its name and wash dishes quietly. It must be easy to make a quiet dishwasher when it does not have to do a good job. It also needs two hours for a full wash cycle.

This dishwasher usually cannot get off anything that is cooked onto a pot or a baking dish. It has trouble washing all the way to the bottom of large plastic cups, regardless of where they are placed in the washer. Sticky stuff like oatmeal or rice is often left in bowls and on silverware. Sticky stuff can also be transferred into any dish able to hold the smallest bit of a puddle during the washing process.

On a more positive note, the 300 does have a useful amount of flexibility in arranging dishes on the racks. It has a basket on the upper rack for small items and an optional lid for the silverware basket. Some of the racks can be rotated down to create space for large items.

I do not prewash, though I do scrape down dishes before putting them in the washer. I do not let them sit for more than a couple days without a rinse cycle to keep things from getting too dried on. I do not use the drying cycle so that debris does not get baked on. Even so, I still do a fair amount of post-washing of bowls, plastic cups, and pots and pans.

Quiet Series 300 - Don't Buy
by: Anonymous

We have owned the QuietSeries 300 for about 6 years and were happy with it for about a year. Then it started getting VERY noisy on and off and wouldn't clean well. We have run cleaners thru it as well as white vinegar, but still the cleaning is not great (we have soft water as well). But that is not the worst of it. Thank goodness I purchased a 60 month extended warranty (something I rarely do), as we have had to have the handle/latch assy replaced once and the control panel replaced twice. Also, both the upper and center racks have had corrosion problems with many tines breaking off - and these are NOT covered by warranty. Overall we are not pleased with this machine, are researching for a new dishwasher, and will NEVER buy a Maytag again.

Pretty loud
by: Anonymous

We purchased our Maytag Quiet Series 300 at Sears. Overall, it is a good dishwasher. The name of the model, however, is misleading. It is pretty loud. Also, the cycle time is very long. It takes well over an hour to wash the dishes. From an aesthetic standpoint, it is very nice. It is stainless steel and does not leave fingerprint marks.

Trouble free for 4 years, well done Maytag
by: Jason Beckley

When my house was built all the appliances inside were from Kenmore and all was fine for the first 3 years. Then the dishwasher started to leak and it would not clean very well. I price shopped Sears, Best Buy, and Lowes and found the best deal on a Maytag quiet series 300 at Lowes who offered at the time a rebate on delivery.

I was able to find a color that would match my other appliances and it was reasonably priced. I, along with most of the world, have seen the 'Maytag Man' commercials at some time and that did influence me someon the purchase. The biggest difference I noticed after the plumber installed the washer was how quiet the machine ran compared to my old Kenmore, the difference being compared to a car driving by and a tractor trailer rumbling past.

The options on the washer to have high temp wash and also to sanitize are great because my kids seem to have every bug that goes around school. There is the ability to delay the machine for it to start when you are sleeping and also heavy duty wash for pots, the interior is designed to hold almost anything and the rinse aid is helpful as well.

I can say that it has been 4 years now and trouble free and if it ever does need replaced it will be with another Maytag very well done!!

This dishwasher worked great for 2 years with no problems. Then it seemed that it was starting to become quite noisy. Next the handle broke and my husband had to repair it. Now it is not cleaning the dishes on the top rack. They are full of gunk. We will be buying a new dishwasher soon and it won't be a Maytag.

Really quiet machine
by: Annette

I love this dishwasher. It lives up to it's name - it's wonderfully quiet, which is great for us, since we practically live in the kitchen. The jets are powerful and thoughtfully arranged, with reconfigurable racks that make it easy to load the machine with anything from dozens of small plates to huge roasting pans. I’ve never once noticed any food or soap residue on any pan, plate or glass – even on the normal cycle.

The “sanitize” cycle is a huge bonus; it super-heats plates and glasses and makes you feel really comfortable about the cleanliness of your kitchen. The variety of settings is useful, too – being able to choose a light wash when you only really need to rinse lightly-used plates is great for the environment and for your water bill. The potscrubbing cycle is incredibly robust, and can blast even baked-on grease and cheese from a lasagna pan with no problem.

The time delay, which give you an option of 2, 4, or 6 hours, is a nice addition as well; it means we can program the machine to start well after we’ve gone to bed, so we can wake up to sparkling-clean dishes in the morning without having to listen to the cycle!

The washer looks pretty good in my newly remodeled kitchen, to, which is nice. A brushed stainless steel front and black details make it look very up-to-date and unobtrusive. The soft rubber-coated racks (no cracks I can see after three years of constant use) are, as I mentioned, reconfigurable – there are several extra snap-on folding pieces that can accommodate almost any arrangement of plates and cookware.

All in all, a really great mid-range dishwasher, especially for people like us who live in an open-plan house and REALLY LIKE a quiet machine.

Rinse cycle light always on
by: Anonymous

I have the same problem as many other owners of this dishwasher. The control panel doesn't work right. It used to be hard to activate - I would press a button and most of the time it wouldn't work. After 4 or 5 tries it would finally work.

Now, it just doesn't work at all. No matter which cycle I select the rinse cycle keeps coming on. I can't even do a regular wash. I have only had it for about 2 years. This is the worst appliance I have ever had.

Frustrated
by: Anonymous

I've had my 300 Series for about 18 months and I'm terribly frustrated with it. The control panel has stopped working properly. I will go to run it, either on normal or auto wash and within a few minutes it switches over to rinse only and then follows that cycle. I have to try multiple times before the system finally 'takes', and the regular wash cycle is processed. It's a waste of money and water. In my research, this is apparently a regular issue. The touch panel is about $50 to replace. Something I shouldn't have to do.

Full of great options
by: Pauline

My dishwasher the is a Maytag and I really like it. I bought it about 2 years ago from an appliance center. The color had to be black to match my stove and other appliances like the coffee maker, toaster, etc.

This machine is full of great options; it has 5 cycles: heavy, normal, light, rinse, insta wash, auto clean, delay option and heated to sanitize.
The Sanitize feature says it gets rid of 99.9% of bacteria. I don't how this is verified, but I guess they have done tests.

Some of the recommendations are to set my hot water heater 120-140F for optimum cleaning. I haven't even checked on this. It also recommends using a rinsing agent to improve drying results.

There is a support line 1-800-888-9900 which to date I haven?t had to use. I guess that?s a good thing.

The dishwasher has proven to be reliable and cleans very well. The inside is a large capacity and I can load it up with lots of dishes and pots.
The silverware tray has different slots for the size of forks, knives, and spoons.

The top tray can expand or contract depending on what I need to clean.

I would recommend this machine to anyone who is looking for sleek, easy to use, and who need all those wash cycles for the tough jobs.

Now that I have really looked at the options, I might try some of them instead of just using the light or regular wash cycle.
Tonight I will try the sanitize option, just to see if I can tell the difference.
