Kenmore Quiet Guard Standard Model #587.1616

We bought our Kenmore dishwasher a little over two years ago and have had nothing but problems. It gets stuck in the glass wash and quick rinse cycles unless we nudge the dial a hair.

This started about a week after the warranty ran out. If we don't turn the dial it will run forever literally. I can't start the dishwasher before I leave the house or go to bed because I have to make sure that I am listening for it so I can try to time when to turn the dial. When we called Sears out to look at it we were told the timer was bad.

They wanted to charge us more for the repair then the dishwasher actually cost!!! We declined since we had just retired from the military and I was recovering from spinal surgery. We figured we would fix it ourselves except for one problem....can't find the timer for sale any where.

Never again we will buy a Kenmore. Since Sears merged with Kmart the quality has gone down the drain. We thought we could trust the Kenmore name since we had a Kenmore microwave that stood up to 5 military moves(including 1 to Iceland) and 3 boys. It served us well for 15 years untill one day it started to sound like a Harley motorcycle. Kenmore used to stand for outstanding quality, now it is as cheaply made as the goodie bag toys you get at the Dollar Store.

Avoid this dishwaher at all costs! This dishwasher is 7 months old and has had 5 service calls. Dishes would come out dirtier than when they were put in.

Kenmore 587 Model dishwasher

Our home came with a Kenmore 587 Model dishwasher when we purchased it. I estimate that the dishwasher is now 6 years old. It was a built-in model, as the home was a new construction when the previous owners had the home built.

I would not give this dishwasher a good review. I have talked to my husband about taking it out and buying another one.

It has no bells and whistles and many things come out just as dirty as they went in, especially the silverware.

I am careful to avoid nesting when I put the silverware in and the machine doesn't do a good job with anything remotely dirty. I feel the need to pre-wash just about everything I put in there. Another bad aspect of this dishwasher is that it has an annoying habit of mildewing.

If we were to go away for even just a day or two, I need to prop the door open slightly. It also gets clogged a lot and we have had to disassemble the machine to clean it out to allow for drainage. In the summer, it seems to mildew a lot more frequently.

Allowing dishes to dry under the air dry feature does not get them dry, nor does the drying cycle. No matter which you press, the dishes are wet when you take them out.

I would steer clear of Kenmore 587 Model.

Kenmore Quiet Guard-Standard Model #587.1525*

I purchased a dishwasher, Model #587.15254402, in February of 2007. About 6 months later it started leaking. Repair came out and replaced the door seal and lower spray arm. At 17 months of ownership, it started making a high pitched squeal during the wash cycle.

I called service and $70.00 later they told me it was a bad bearing in the motor and I would have to have the motor/pump replaced. They quoted me a price of $411.00!! I paid $427.00 for the dishwasher new. I went online and found this same motor/pump assembly through sers.com/parts for $69.99. I will buy it from them and have someone else install it.

We are only a 2 person household and I rinse the dishes first before putting them in the dishwasher...there was no reason why this dishwasher shouldn't have lasted longer!! Sears Service 800 has been moved to India and it's very difficult to communicate with most of the operators.

One of them even hung up on me when I questioned why I couldn't have a service tech call me earlier than the day before my appointment which wasn't going to be for over 2 weeks later.
Since buying the dishwasher I have also purchased a side by side refrigerator and a smooth top range. How long before something goes wrong with them?? I am now looking at a washer/dryer combo but I'm not sure I want to go back to Sear's if your product quality and customer service have declined like this.

I grew up with Kenmore and I'll be loyal to it unless I feel like I'm getting screwed over and right now I do. Our previous dishwasher which was a GE and was in the house when we bought it lasted for 14 years before it had a problem.

I am very disillusioned with SEARS right now!!

I would not buy another Kenmore dishwasher. In the past, I have had good luck with Kenmore appliances, but I've been very disappointed with the last two Kenmore Dishwashers I have owned. The 587 is the most recent model that we bought a little over a year ago.

Within months of buying it, it would stop mid-cycle and the Heat Dry and Hi Temp lights would flash. I'm told this is supposed to indicate a power failure. This happens on a regular basis, when there has been no power failure.

We had the Sears Service Tech out and he said the control panel was bad and replaced it. Within a couple months, we started having the same problem again. We called Sears out again (still under warrenty) and he couldn't "find anything wrong with it". Like is so often the case, it didn't stop mid-cyle when the repair person was there! We waited another couple months and called Sears again. They now tell us it is out of warrenty and will cost $65 just for the service call.

I've seen numerous threads on the internet about people that are having the exact same problem as me. The service techs that are responding just keep replacing the control panels. I've seen several times where this has not fixed the problem.

I decided to work on it myself. I can get a replacement panel on-line for $65, where Sears would charge me $65 for the visit and another $120 for the part. I've replaced the panel before on my last Kenmore dishwasher and it's easy to do.

With the quality problems that Sears and their suppliers are having, I don't plan to buy an appliance from them again.
