Asko 1996

My Asko 1996 Broke down. Just had the repair guy over and learned that the circuit board was fried. Apparently the hole that forms over the "start" button lets water leak in, which can then short circuit the whole system.

They don't even make the computer for mine anymore -- but even if they did, he said it would be $600 to replace. The repair person told me that all the Asko brands have this problem, because it's a cheap piece of plastic that covers the control buttons, and that the frequently used buttons always pierce the plastic coating.

They recommend that everyone replace this immediately, otherwise the unit will be short circuited. Clearly a design flaw here.

I have to replace the whole unit -- but it won't be with Asko

D1996

Absolute Junk:

Bought my asko D1996 in 2003, Asko advertises 20 years plus life which convinced me to pay double than a normal one.

First the pump had to be replaced as it was super noisy , then the control board burnt and had to be replaced.

Then in year 7 the pump failed, and in year 8 the contol board burnt and failed and none to be had from a supplier, so i took it to the dump today.

Asko customer service was of no help nor was their canadian distributor, which in the end was great as it made me junk the sucker that i was a sucker for.

The worst appliance purchase I have ever made. Never cleaned the dishes well, especially glasses, the inside of the machine had to be regularly hand cleaned. Permormed was worse than the $50.00 used washer I got at a flea market for my cottage.

I think the problem is that Asko designed this machine in europe and then did not re-engineer it for north american power which is 120volts not 240volts as in Europe. Half the voltage = twice the amps, which would as we have seen lead to system failures of many components.

The fact that Asko false advertises the 20 years plus and quality of its products, which is not true, I think should result in them paying back us suckers who have bought their junk.

Just bought a Bosch at 1/2 the price of the Asko and 7 years later. Sears give a 5 years warranty and a rebate on warranty costs if you don't need to use the warranty.

Feel rather stupid that i chose Asko instead of Bosch 7 years ago.

Buying Asko was one of the worst consumer choices I ever made.
