SHE55PO5UC

This is my first Bosch dishwasher. It cleans better than any other dishwasher I have had. However, the door counter balance cord broke and allowed the door to fall rapidly to the floor unless held.

It was still under warranty but I wonder if anyone else has had this problem. It is only a cord rather than a cable wire and doesn't seem to be a good design for a Bosch.

Bosch series 500 model SHE55P02UC

The Bosch SHE55P02UC is a very quiet and appears to be well built. I bought it because it was recommended by Consumer Reports. Unfortunately after I installed it, my wife and I noted that the layout of the tines on the racks is very inefficient.

The bottom rack has too many tines, too close together, and slanted in a way that does not allow the efficient loading of anything that isn't flat.

So it's great for dinner plates, salad plates, & saucers, but really poor for any kind of bowl. It appears to be designed for someone who has large formal meals (dinner plate, salad plate, cup with saucer) at every meal. It just isn't built to handle bowls of any size (unless they're very shallow or nearly flat).

The top rack has similar problems but not as bad as the bottom rack. We have four kids and use a lot of bowls. I don't think this was designed for a typical American family.

Because of the rack issue, we find ourselves running this Bosch twice a day where we were only running the Kenmore it replaced once a day with the same volume. (The Kenmore was a CR Best Buy that failed in five years.)

I give this machine a thumbs down because of the racks. If Bosch sold a replacement rack for this machine with a more efficient rack layout, I'd buy it. In the meantime, I guess we'll be running this machine twice a day until the kids age out of the house.

I bought this machine because it was supposed to be quiet (it is) and efficient (it isn't if you have to run it twice as often).
