Whirlpool Dishwasher DU945

by Tyra
(Texas)

This stainless steel dishwasher came new with our home when we purchased it in December, 2005. Within a short time we found ourselves always using the option for high-temp washing. When any other setting for the temperature is selected our dishes do not feel as clean.

I am glad that the upper rack has it's own spray arm to clean the items separately. Our baby's bottles and sippy cups are always spotless.

This particular model does not have adjustable levels for the upper rack which would make loading the dishes easier. We sometimes run into a problem with items being too tall for the top rack which leads to hand washing.

The silverware basket stays in place while the machine is washing, but it moves far too easily when bumped accidentally and has been very frustrating.

The controls are very easy to master but I wish they were integrated or hidden in the top of the machine. The "lock" feature is an absolute must with a curious toddler in the house.

Overall, I love the quality of the dishwasher and the time it saves our family.

Pros
- The dishwasher is fairly quiet
- You can delay the start to the middle of the night when you're asleep
- There's a lot of control of wash cycle type, loads up fairly neatly.

Cons
- Bad at cleaning pans
- Bad at cleaning silverware.

To wash anything on the normal setting is a waste of time with this dishwasher because nothing gets clean. You have to use the Heavy setting at least, and even then pans do not get cleaned and one quarter to one third of the silverware doesn't get cleaned.

The design and placement of the silverware basket is bad engineering in my opinion - it's in the door of the dishwasher and the result is poor cleaning of the silverware.

I do appreciate the ability to turn off the heated drying and also to use high temperature wash, though I don't know if that actually has any effect on the cleaning of the dishes. I also use the four hour delay all the time. I wouldn't buy this dishwasher in the future.
